Come The Revolutions
The Green Revolution
'Respect – Reduce – Restore - Recycle. The future of the garden lies with you’
The Secret Garden Party is a unique opportunity for all of us to contribute by hugging trees and loving thy neighbour in a beautiful natural environment.
Respect: treat the garden as you would your own.
Reduce: packaging brought into the camp site.
Restore: the garden and yourselves to be better than when we all arrived.
Recycle: your rubbish and decrease waste
This year at the Secret Garden Party we have made cost effective actions to reduce our impact on the environment. We are building a community from dry recyclables, hosting interactive Global Warming Workshops for all ages. Encouraging all artists to use above 30% reclaimed materials in their pieces. And our favourite - the eco rangers who will help you and us make the whole site a beautiful green space to be.
SGP’s vision statement underlies the importance of thinking before you act. We aim to convey the message of being green, without ramming it down your throat or giving you a guilt trip whilst your getting down on the floating Pagoda stage.
Each tonne of paper recycled saves 15 average sized trees and we like trees.
Also 25 plastic drink bottles makes a fleece jacket
You can make 20 cans out of recycled materials with the same amount of
energy it takes to make a single one can from virgin material.
It is estimated that up to 90% of what is put in our bins could either be reused or recycled.
A leaky tap with only a tiny trickle of water wastes something like 60 litres of water and hour!
What does it mean to be Sustainable and green?
“Sustainable development satisfies the needs of the present generation without compromising the chance for future generations to satisfy theirs.”
WECD (1987)
Campers Green Finger Tips

• Please tidy up and recycle in your campsite
• Re-use your carrier bags
• Use the Orange recycling bags for dry recyclables.
Greenvoice
Greenvoice is a campaigning website that hosts a 'revolution in action' camp about taking action and making a change on the big issues. Experienced campaigners from Friends of the Earth, WWF, Climate Camp, and others, will lay out the forces behind the Green Revolution through talks and workshops. Movies that make an impact and
get you out of your seat will be shown in the relaxed Moroccan tent, and fun games where you get to hammer the decision makers, will take place outside.
Running all week end – come and take action in the revolution!
Green Car Tax
We will be introducing a green car tax of £5 for cars entering site with two or less people in them. This is to encourage car sharing and to reduce our impact on the environment.
The money used from this will be used to purchase trees, which will be given to the local community.
One barrel of oil contains 25,000 hours of human labour. No wonder it’s been so handy over the past 150 years. Sadly for mother earth that ‘labour’ has not been put to the best of uses; whilst the process of releasing the ‘labour’ has also contributed to global warming. Luckily oil has an inbuilt safety mechanism: it runs out. Very quickly. In recognition of this fact The Secret Garden Party will begin to switch to solar power (Science Camp will let you know when that is expected to run out).
Small World are already ahead of the game, as are some of our food stalls and traders. In 2008 The Gateway will be powered by Solar energy and Centre Camp will be powered by waste oils. Big steps in the right direction. We’ve also taken on a new team _08_member with a role dedicated to reducing the impact of The SGP on the world’s ecology. Less plastic, more efficient recycling, more planting of trees in the grounds.
